Formal definitions of conservative probability distribution functions (PDFs)

Under ideal conditions, the probability density function (PDF) of a random variable, such as sensor measurement, would be well known and amenable to computation communication tasks. However, this is often not case, so user looks for some other PDF that approximates true but intractable PDF. Conservativeness commonly sought property approximating PDF, especially in distributed or unstructured data systems where being fused may contain un-known correlations. Roughly, conservative approximation one overestimates uncertainty system. While prior work has introduced definitions conservativeness, these either apply only normal distributions violate intuitive appeal (Gaussian) definitions. This provides general definition conservativeness applicable any distribution measure over Rm an infinite subset thereof, including multi-modal uniform distributions. Unfortunately, we show strong does hold with used fusion techniques. Therefore, also describe weaker it preserved through common methods, assuming input can factored into independent PDFs normalized Rm. By illustrating what possible terms during fusion, improved understanding methods obtained.
